Preparations Underway for the International Pushkar Mela 2024

The internationally renowned Pushkar Camel Fair is set to take place from November 6th to November 14th, 2024. The Animal Husbandry Department and the Tourism Department have officially announced the dates for this year's fair, and the government machinery has already swung into action to ensure the smooth organization of this grand event.

As the dates draw closer, the sand dunes of Pushkar are once again coming alive with the vibrant culture and traditions of the region. Pastoralists have started arriving with their livestock, and the process of setting up tents has already begun. Traders, seeking new business opportunities, have also started making their way to the fair.


Key Government Departments Involved


The Animal Husbandry Department and the Tourism Department are the two major government agencies spearheading the preparations for the Pushkar Mela. Additionally, the local municipal council and the police department are also actively involved in ensuring the successful organization of the event.


The Animal Husbandry Department, has issued directives to strengthen the arrangements for providing drinking water to the animals and the pastoralists, setting up subsidized fodder depots, installing lighting, and enhancing the temporary infrastructure. Special attention is being paid to the amenities and facilities for the visitors.


The Rajasthan Police has taken charge of maintaining law and order during the fair, while the officials from the local municipal council are working to improve the overall experience for the guests.


Increasing Number of Animals


As of now, 1,152 animals have been registered for the Pushkar Mela. Out of these, 704 animals are from within Rajasthan, and 448 are from outside the state.


The camel population comprises 462 animals, with 442 from within Rajasthan and 20 from outside the state. The horse population stands at 689, with 261 from within Rajasthan and 428 from outside the state. Additionally, there is one buffalo that has also arrived for the fair.

Animal Husbandry Department, stated that the arrival of animals at the Pushkar Mela is ongoing, and the numbers are steadily increasing day by day.





New Attractions Added


This year, the Pushkar Mela has introduced several new attractions to captivate the visitors. In addition to the regular hot air balloons, the fair will also feature dragon boats and chair swings as new and exciting ride options.


The circus performances will showcase a variety of new and awe-inspiring acts. Furthermore, the fair will host cultural events such as theater, Kathak dance, and Prahlad Nritya (a traditional dance form) to enhance the overall experience.





As always, the Pushkar Mela will offer a wide range of colorful attire, newspapers, souvenirs, animals, birds, and toys for sale. Significant attention is being paid to these elements to maintain the fair's allure.
